Fostering Sustainability Action through Trash Bank Program
18 April 2023 – B. Braun Indonesia collaborates with Bank Sampah Latanza on Trash Bank Program initiative to encourage employees to reduce waste and contribute to saving the environment.
In Indonesia, household waste contributes to producing more than 40% of the total national waste or around 22 million tons in 2021. The booming output of household waste is caused by several factors, namely population density in big cities, the purchasing power of household products that are high, as well as a shortage of household waste processing media. As a family company that is managed globally, B. Braun has the principle of running a sustainable business system or sustainability in every business process, so that it hopes to help contribute to sustainability and improve people's lives for future generations. In Indonesia, B. Braun realized this effort by initiating a centralized Trash Brank program, inviting all colleagues in production and commercial locations to open savings with waste. This initiative also collaborates with a local waste management organization, the Bank Sampah Latanza, a Garbage Bank domiciled in Cikampek, West Java.
The outreach was held in a hybrid manner on 13 April 2023, at the Head Office of B. Braun Indonesia, Jakarta. The Bank Sampah Latanza team is here to fill out educational materials on the topic of household waste management, and how we can contribute to saving the environment by opening a Trash Bank savings account. Another advantage is that Trash Bank customers can convert the waste savings they send into nominal money that can be disbursed either as cash, gold, even health programs and donations. The socialization which was attended by all B. Braun Indonesia colleagues was greeted with extraordinary enthusiasm. Colleagues are enthusiastic about finding out more about the Trash Bank program, as well as how waste can be recycled into more useful items. Jois as Director of Bank Sampah Latanza explained that the final process of waste that is not recycled or sorted can cause new problems at the final disposal site and become a disease for the community and the surrounding environment.
"I hope that B. Braun Indonesia colleagues can be encouraged to protect the environment, and the enthusiasm is of course to take part in the Trash Bank program because in fact at us, the waste that is collected can still be of value and can be used as money savings." said Jois, Director of the Bank Sampah Latanza.
The implementation of this program will begin in April. It is hoped that activities like this can foster a sense of responsibility for the waste generated and encourage the enthusiasm of B. Braun Indonesia colleagues to contribute through small steps for a better environmental sustainability. In addition, it is hoped that with the principle of sustainability in every activity or business process carried out, B. Braun's colleagues can see the benefits for themselves, business processes, and the environment.
"This program is good to implement, but the most important thing is how we reduce waste production in our daily activities, not just recycling it. The plastic diet is a small step that can be taken. The principles in this program can open our eyes that even waste that is considered has no value can still valuable,” said Rainer Rupel, President Director of B. Braun Indonesia.
